Call for Volunteers
This call for volunteers was written by Craig Williams, CPIM, as Executive Vice President of APICS Tampa Bay/guestpost]
Did you know APICS Tampa Bay has consistently, for more than twenty-plus years, been in the top tier of APICS chapters in the country? Have you ever wondered how the Florida West Coast Chapter continues to succeed over all these years? How does this happen?
It’s through the hard work and dedication of members, just like you, who have served on our chapter’s board of directors.
Every year, some of your fellow members stand up and volunteer their time and enthusiasm to create this chapter we all enjoy. All of our education, workshops, meetings, plant tours, career services – all of these member benefits come directly from this team of volunteers. What I want to talk about today is sustainability of our chapter’s leadership, and the ways you can participate if interested.
Most of us started small, usually by simply attending one of our board meetings to see how they run. Curiosity and a yearning to give back are the usual motivations. We love visitors, and we’re very flexible – you can contribute as much or as little as you want to fit your schedule and ability to commit.
- You can simply volunteer to help out on specific projects. One and done.
- You can be appointed as a Director at Large. You’re on the board, but can pick and choose your tasks.
- Or you can have your name put on the annual ballot and get elected as an officer, with all the duties and privileges that entails.
Please take a moment to view our Officer positions on our website. Director and Officer terms are from July 1st through June 30th. We have monthly board meetings, mostly virtual, so you can participate on the board wherever you can phone in or get an internet connection. We have two face-to-face board meetings, in June (transition) and January (midyear review). Refreshments are provided, of course.
Elections are in May and the ballot is finalized in April, however we wanted to get the word to you out early. All of the board positions are open for nominations and voting.
If you have any questions we can answer about serving our chapter in any capacity, please contact us. The board’s email addresses are listed on our website. You can also attend our monthly professional development meetings and talk with us directly. Volunteering on your chapter board is good for you. It’s fun, it’s engaging, it helps our chapter continue to thrive, and it looks darn good on your resume!
Please consider our offer, and let us know if we can answer any questions.
